THE GREAT COMMISSION AND THE GREATEST COMMANDMENT (As the Glad Tidings Church held our 102nd May meetings, Pastor David Riley encouraged us to keep working for God, stressing the importance of living out our faith through the message of the kingdom and through a lifestyle of love.)
JESUS - GOD'S FINAL WORD (We put great emphasis on the importance of the Scriptures, but Pastor Brown stresses that they are not to be treated superficially or superstitiously. Sometimes, we read the Bible but miss the message. The written word points to God's living word. And as we focus on Jesus, we make the Bible more valuable and meaningful in our lives. -- Hebrews 1:1-3.)
THE FINEST FRUIT EVER PRODUCED (Part 1) (No one wants to eat rotten fruit. We get sickened by the sight and the smell of it. We get rid of it. We don't want to keep it around. It spoils the other fruit, and it's unhealthy for us. Good and bad fruit simply don't mix. It's the same way in our lives. We're all at different ripening stages. In today's study, Pastor Brown begins to show how we Christians can reproduce wholesome, healthy fruit in our lives by examining the rotten fruit of the flesh. -- Galatians 5:16-23.)
THE FINEST FRUIT EVER PRODUCED (Part 2) (Following our look at ridding the "rotten fruit", Pastor Brown examines in this message how to cultivate the fruit of the spirit in our lives. It starts by putting our sin to death through the cross. It is then we can begin allowing Jesus to produce the best fruit inside of us. And as we walk in the spirit, we begin walking in step with God. -- Galatians 3:19-26; 2:20; Colossians 3:3,5; Ephesians 5:5,20; 1 Corinthians 6:8-10; 2 Corinthians 12:20; Romans 3:23; 6:11.)
HOLDING FAST THE WORD OF LIFE (If you lived in a distant land, and your father wrote you a letter, would you be eager to read it? If you really loved your father, you would probably read it again and again. Former pastor Frank Toth reminds us that we have all received a message from our Heavenly Father in His word. Whoever wants eternal life must understand the word of life. The Bible is a comfort when we're ill or going through difficult circumstances. And it's up to us to extend the same message to others. -- Philippians 2:15,16; Genesis 3:15; 26:35; Psalm 103:1-3; 41:3; 25:15,17; James 5:13-16; 1 Samuel 15:23; Matthew 25:39,40; Deuteronomy 7:15; Nehemiah 2; 1 Peter 5:6,7.)
HOW TO BE A CHRISTIAN ALL THE TIME (What does it mean to be a Christian? Pastor Brown points out that Christians can easily fall into the notion that being a Christian is what you do instead of what you become. Some say they're a Christian, but they're really not sure that they are. How can we know? Are we just one big sin from being off probation? In this audio presentation, Pastor Brown helps us find out the truth on this urgent matter. -- Ephesians 2:8,9; 1 John 5:13; Hebrews 11:39,40; 1 Cor. 15:53;1 John 2:28; 4:23; 3:2,3, 21-23, 14; 5:9-12.)
PROFILE OF A FAITHFUL MOM (Imagine being a parent and knowing that your child would be killed. Pastor Brown relates that in ancient Egypt, this was the case. It took much faith to face the times of tragedy and terror under the Pharaoh. When Moses wrote the book of Exodus, he gave an intriguing account of his birth mother and what he remembers about her. She and her husband went to great lengths to ensure the safety and survival of her son. They knew there was nothing they could do but trust God. And through their act of courage and faith, God would change the course of history. -- Exodus 2:1-10; Hebrews 11:23; Proverbs 31; Acts 7:20-21; Philippians 4:13.)
BY THIS ALL MEN WILL KNOW (Former Pastor Frank Toth asks, Why do our parents make rules for us? Because they love us, of course. God's commands are the same way. Jesus gave his disciples a new command. It's not an option that we love one another. It's not a suggestion. We are obligated. It's an order. The King has commanded us. And our ability to love is derived from God through Jesus Christ. We love because he first loved us. Our ability to live out our Christian life is impaired unless we know where true love comes from. And we give our best witness to the world when we are loving people. -- John 13:34,35.)
PURSUED (Have you ever felt pursued or cornered? Do you experience times in your life when all seems lost? Does everything look hopeless? When Pharaoh's army pursued the Israelites, they felt trapped. They could see the enemy fast approaching, but they were told to keep their eyes on the Lord and go forward. In this message, Honorary Elder Ed Goit shows that in the same way, it's up to us to keep focused ahead on the Lord when we are being pursued by our adversary. -- 1 Corinthians 10:11,12; Exodus 14:5-9; 13:15; Ephesians 6:11.)
THE DYNAMICS OF PRAYER IN WORSHIP (Pastor Brown explains that worship is not a performance but a service. We all can serve in worship in some way. Not everyone can preach from the pulpit or lead worship songs, but each of us can pray. Prayer is important publicly and privately, at home and at church. Prayer is also very powerful. Are you plugged into the power source in your worship life? Are you taking the time to talk to our Lord? He's always waiting. And he's always listening.)
WHAT A FIG TREE HAS TO DO WITH THE LAST DAYS (Jesus liked to use stories to teach truths to his disciples. In this message, Pastor Michael Brown closely examines the parable of the fig tree, a common fruit tree throughout the land of Israel. What was the significance to the Jewish audience who heard Jesus? What can this simple object lesson teach us about the signs of the coming of Jesus and the last days ahead? -- Matthew 24:32-26; 24:1-3; Joel 1:7; Luke 21:29,30; Micah 4:4.)
THE HEART OF WISDOM (There's a lot of wisdom in this age today. As former Pastor Frank Toth relates some of what the apostle Paul called "the wisdom of the world," we notice something is missing at the center of man's advice -- something is missing at the center of worldly living. What do the Proverbs of the Bible advise as the most practical way to be prepared and equipped for daily living? Is it how MUCH we know? Or possibly someone special WHO we know?)
GOD'S PRECIOUS PROMISES (There are many things to be thankful for to our God. In today's message, Elder Howard challenged us to meditate on those things. What's our job in the church? What do outsiders see in us? What attracts people to our church? Is it the building or our programs? Or is it the love and concern we show for others? And what hope does God promise to His church at the soon return of His son, Jesus?)
THE ARK OF THE COVENANT (After escaping from Egypt, nothing was more important during Israel's wanderings in the wilderness than the commandments given directly from God, and the tabernacle of worship. In this message, Honorary Elder Ed Goit guides us into the meanings and importance surrounding the Ark, the sacrificial blood, our mercy seat, our great high priest, and the future return of the glory of God among his people in the New Jerusalem. -- Exodus 25, Hebrews 4:14-16; 10:19, 20; Numbers 10:34; 1 Timothy 6:15, 16.)
SIGNS OF THESE TIMES ("Signs, signs -- everywhere there are signs!" Sound familiar? Are you tired of waiting? Are you growing impatient for the return of Christ? How much longer will we have to wait? And how can we tell the return of Jesus is approaching? Pastor Michael Brown encourages and comforts his listeners with an examination of these and related questions.)
HOW MAJESTIC IS THY NAME (Former Pastor Frank Toth examines a Psalm quoted by Jesus and the writer of Hebrews to show how God weighs our lives on his scales and how we can learn lessons on prayer from the words of King David. -- Psalm 8; Daniel 5:5-6.)
"P.Y.O" (You'll have to listen closely to find out what the initials "P.Y.O" represent in this "fruitful" message presented by Elder Gerry Cook and taken from Galatians 5.)
THE SALVATION EQUATION (What is "salvation?" "Do I need to be saved?" Saved from what? Pastor Brown describes a formula that adds up to eternal life.)
THREE TIMES THE LORD WOULDN'T ANSWER (Honorary Elder Ed Goit explains what's more important: justice or grace? Find out how great sinners are saved by a greater Savior. -- Matthew 15:21-28; John 8:1-11; Matthew 26: 62, 63; 27:12-14; Romans 3:1,2, 22-26; Deuteronomy 25:1; Isaiah 53:10; 2 Corinthians 5:21.)
"HOLY COW!" (Announcer...er...Pastor Michael Brown mooo-ves us to look for the prophetic signs announcing the near return of Christ, and to remember the perfect sacrifice that purified our sins -- and yes, this message does have something to do with Harry Caray.)
